Gritters back in action tonight
WITH temperatures set to dip below freezing tonight, Worcestershire's gritting fleet will be helping to keep the county's roads moving.
Thick cloud and light rain are set to sweep across the area this afternoon, with clearer spells overnight resulting in road surface temperatures dipping to a minimum of -4.
Worcestershire County Council's fleet of 31 gritters will head out to treat main roads from 6.30pm tonight, with the fleet then remaining on standby to respond to weather conditions.
Worcestershire County Council's highways manager, Jon Fraser, said: "Tonight is going to be pretty cold so we're gritting to ensure any problems in the morning are minimised.
"It's still important to remember to drive according to the conditions and keep an eye on your speed since grit, whilst helpful, is never a miracle solution."
Residents can keep up-to-date through the council's #grittertwitter hashtag on its account @worcscc.
The latest information on disruption to public transport and services will be available on the website worcestershire.gov.uk.
Residents can also phone the Worcestershire Hub for information on 01905 765765.
