A SCHEME to build houses on land owned by a district councillor should be refused permission, say planning officers.
Kler Developments has submitted an application to build 50 new homes at Lawn Farm, off Drake Street, Welland.
The land is owned by Roger Cousins, who represents the Morton ward, which includes Welland, on Malvern Hills District Council.
The application is coming up before the council's southern area development control committee on Wednesday when planning officers recommend refusal.
They say the land lies outside the defined settlement boundary of Welland.
It has proved controversial in Welland, with some 100 people crowding into the village hall for a public meeting last autumn, and a residents’ group formed.
A village poll rejected the plan 299 votes to 30 and the parish council voted unanimously to oppose it.
Among the objections are the plan would effectively create a new village, with traffic and flooding issues also being mentioned.
