Progress is steady over fast upgrade

“SLOW but steady” progress continues to be made in the roll-out of superfast broadband across Malvern.

BT has upgraded a further five cabinets to the fibre-optic service since December, meaning 33 of the town’s 55 cabinets are now able to provide improved upload and download speeds.

Another 15 cabinets are scheduled to receive the upgrade. BT says that five of these are due to go live in mid-March and that the others should be completed “soon afterwards”.

Malvern residents expecting the superfast upgrade have been subjected to repeated delays over the past two years and the Gazette has been campaigning for the hold-ups to be resolved.

Ian Binks, regional BT manager, said: “We have literally left no stone unturned in our efforts to bring maximum fibre availability to the citizens of the town,” he said.

Malvern’s MP Harriett Baldwin said: “I am pleased that progress is being made.

We are now well over half way there. I look forward to hearing confirmation from BT that they will hit their March deadlines.”

She also urged people to register their interest in superfast broadband to give BT an indication of the demand for the service.
