Confusion over distribution

THE wheelie bin distribution plan is marred by confusion, a concerned councillor says.

Res idents have been receiving letters informing them whether their home is one of the roughly 80 per cent considered su itab le for a whee l ie bin.

But Green group leader and West Malvern counc i l lor Ju l ian Roskams fears wheelie bins will be sent to unsuitable locations.

He said he had been told h is own home, on the ma in Worcester Road and “one of the most accessible” in Malvern, was considered unsuitable but that several residents in hard -to -reach areas, inc lud ing Lamb Bank, have been told to expect wheelie bins.

He has written to head of community services Ivor Pumfrey asking for urgent clarification.

He said: “It is a bit baffling. If this is representat ive of the tens of thousands of letters that have gone out then it is very worrying.

“It seems like it could be a recipe for disaster.”

But counc i l leader David Hughes said that 33,500 letters had been sent out and to date only 148 had requested an alternate solution.

“We never expected every single assessment we made to be perfect in all respects and we are in the process of responding to the very small minority of residents who have quer ied the ir spec if ic new recycling arrangements,” he said.
