Where are the dancing lions?
A PUB landlord was shocked when dozens of people turned up last weekend expecting fireworks and a tradaitional lion dance for the Chinese new year.
Ken Tse, of the Star Inn, Cowleigh Road, Malvern, said: “I couldn’t believe it.
When I explained to them there was nothing on, they said they had seen it in the Malvern Gazette. I gave them all a free drink as a goodwill gesture.”
The misunderstanding resulted from information sent out by Malvern tourist information centre. A spokesman for the centre said the information had been given to her by a member of staff at the Star.
“Apologies to anyone affected by the mix-up,” she said. “We always do everything that we can to make sure that the information is accurate and this is the first time we have ever had anything like this happen.”
The pub’s real Chinese new year celebration takes place on Sunday (today) at 2.30pm and will include a lion dance and martial arts.
MANE ATTRACTION: Spectators enjoy the fun of Chinese new year at the Star Inn last year – but this year people hoping to enjoy the traditional spectacle turned up on the wrong day after a mix-up over the dates. The pub’s celebrations will actually take place today.
