Milk run ended in three year drive ban

A MAN was caught driving at more than three times the legal drink-drive limit after he drove to the shop to buy milk the day after attending a party.

Guy Mathews, aged 36, of Worcester Road, Malvern, was caught driving with 122mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath – the legal limit is 35mcg – at 2pm on Sunday, January 13.

Kerry Lovegrove, prosecuting at Worcester Magistrates Court, said Mathews was seen driving a green BMW and was stopped by police.

Brian O’Connell, defending, said Mathews had been to a party on the Saturday night where he drank a lot and went to bed around 2am on the Sunday. Mr O’Connell said: “He hadn’t eaten and wasn’t thinking.”

Mathews was given a 12- month community order and the drink impaired driver’s course, and was disqualified for three years.

He was also made the subject of a 10-week curfew and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.
