Outdoor centre bid heard
11:00am Monday 4th February 2013 in News
HOPES that a much-valued outdoor education centre in Malvern could end up in community hands are growing after “constructive” talks with county council decision makers.
Malvern Hills Outdoor Education Centre, in West Malvern, was reprieved from the threat of closure when Worcestershire County Council announced a deal for private firm Acorn Adventure to take it over.
But a group of the centre’s staff, backed by local residents and councillors, has launched a rival bid for a community takeover.
County councillor Beverley Nielsen held another meeting at County Hall on Friday and said she was “very encouraged” with how things are progressing.
Coun Nielsen revealed she was in talks with the Bransford Trust, a charity that supports causes associated with young people, which is keen to support the bid.
The team behind the community bid have now been asked to amend a few details in their plan before re-submitting it to the council.
