Refugee Ruth tells of escape from Nazis

STUDENTS from the Chase School in Malvern met former refugee Ruth Barnett, as part of a visit organised by the Holocaust Educational Trust.

Mrs Barnett escaped the Nazi regime at the age of four with her seven-yearold brother Martin on the Kindertransport, a rescue mission that evacuated children out of Germany.

Her testimony was followed by a question-andanswer session to enable students to better understand the nature of the Holocaust and to explore its lessons in more depth.

Headteacher Kevin Peck said: “Ruth’s testimony will remain a powerful reminder of the horrors so many experienced.

“We are grateful to the Holocaust Educational Trust for co-ordinating the visit and we hope that by hearing Ruth’s testimony, it will encourage our students to learn from the lessons of the Holocaust and make a positive difference in their own lives.”
