Worcester set to see snow covered daffodils this weekend

AS Worcester braces itself for a flurry of snow this weekend it seems the city’s daffodils didn’t get the message about the coming cold snap as many have already bloomed.

The happy yellow flower usually appears in the spring months but weeks of unseasonably warm weather have led to a large number flowering early.

Their appearance comes just days before the first winter snow is forecast and temperatures are due to take a dive below freezing.

Paul Michaelwaite, a Worcestershire weather forecaster from Netweather, said: “There is rain coming up from the south west, which will meet the cold air. It is on a knife edge whether Worcestershire will get snow. It may be rain and sleet and turn into snow in the evening. It is definitely one to watch.

“The temperature in December was in keeping with the average due to low temperatures early in the month. So far January has been about 3 degrees above normal but it will be below average over the weekend. It is going to be a shock to the system.

“There will certainly be some frost at night, strong winds and it will feel sub zero.”
