A DRAMATIC new public art work has been added to Great Malvern’s townscape.
The £17,000 sculpture by renowned artist Walenty Pytel depicting two huge buzzards has been installed in Rosebank Gardens to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, funded by Malvern Town Council, Malvern Hills District Council and private donations.
It is not the first time Mr Pytel has made a sculpture to mark a royal jubilee. In 1977, a silver jubilee commemorative fountain depicting Great Britain’s heraldic beasts was unveiled outside the Houses of Parliament in London.
The Rosebank Gardens sculpture has been the dream of Malvern resident Peter Smith since 2005.
“It looks absolutely magnificent. It’s been a long haul, but in the end it’s been worth it,” he said.
“Walenty told me this was to be his last major work, though he will continue to create smaller sculptures.”
