SIX rare black poplar trees have been planted on Castlemorton Common, near Malvern, to commemorate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee year.
The tree is rare in Britain, with only 10,000 thought to remain.
More than 80 of those are on Castlemorton Common and the trees are one of the main reasons for the land being designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
The planting follows a new avenue of English Oaks being planted in Barnards Green, Malvern, earlier this year, also in honour of the jubilee.
Helen Stace, chairman of Malvern Hills Conservators’ land management committee, said the group wanted to plant trees in both rural and urban settings to celebrate the occasion.
