A WOMAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after reports that a second woman was pushed off a railway bridge.

The victim, who is in her 20s, suffered serious injuries after falling from the railway bridge next to Malvern Link station at around 6.15pm on Wednesday.

West Mercia Police are investigating whether there are any suspicious circumstances to the incident and witnesses say the victim may have been pushed from the bridge.

Members of the public pulled her to safety and attended to her until she was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital at Birmingham where she remains in a serious condition.

The incident led to the closure of the railway line for a time.

A second woman in her 20s was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder shortly afterwards and she remains in custody at Worcester Police Station helping officers with their inquiries.

Detective Inspector Mark Loader said: "We are in the early stages of what is already a complex investigation. My team and I need to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or the moments leading up to it.

"We particularly want to speak to anyone who was at Malvern Link Station at the time, and there was dozens of commuters on the platform, especially one man who was among those who came to the women's aid and has not yet spoken to the police.

"We also want to speak to anyone who was walking or driving along Worcester Road between 6pm and 6.15pm and saw two women acting suspiciously on the railway bridge."

Anyone with information is urged to contact DI Loader and Malvern CID on the non-emergency number 101, quoting the reference 616S 14/11/12.
