Tyre mound leads to prosecution
A MOUND of tyres in Guarlford has led to the successful prosecution of the owner of the land.
Malvern Hills District Council planning and legal services prosecuted Mark Smith for being in breach of planning controls at the Homestead, Clevelode Lane.
Mr Smith was handed the maximum fine of £1,000 together with £1,518 costs by the magistrate on Wednesday, April 9.
The unauthorised storage of tyres had raised concerns among local residents, the parish council and district councillors due to their unsightly appearance.
Councillor Roger Hall-Jones, portfolio holder for planning housing and transport, said: "The tyres being stored at Guarlford are a real eye-sore and the District Council is determined to see them removed.
"The council hopes that the owner will now remove the tyres as a matter of urgency or further action may be required."
