CRICKET: Get ready for a great 2008
THIS year's cricket season is set to be the biggest and best yet as our teams go for top spot in their respective leagues.
Some teams have been promoted and are looking ahead to playing at a higher level, whilst others are looking forward to a brand new campaign with brand new players on board.
Here are profiles of some of our teams as they look to have a great 2008 season.
BARNARDS GREEN:
The North End Lane side are hoping the form from last years promotion-winning season continues as they start life in division one of the Crusader Worcestershire County League.
Barnards Green also welcome a pair of multi-sports stars to the squad with Liam Paddock (who also plays for Malvern Town) and Phil Harris (who lines up for Chasetown), swapping the football pitch for the cricket field.
Robin Longmore, club secretary, said: "Survival is the key. We're hoping for a consolidation year."
BROCKHAMPTON CRICKET CLUB:
The promoted Parks club will have an Aussie influence this year through new overseas signing Sean Cartwright.
The Queensland quick bowler is aiming to terrorise batsman in Division Three Birmingham League.
Brockhampton, coached by Ed Price, start their new campaign with a Herefordshire derby against Kington next Saturday (May 3), from 1pm.
BOSBURY CRICKET CLUB:
The Marches Division two side are aiming for a top three finish from this year's campaign.
They welcome new additions Brian Miller, Matt Graff and Simon Probyn.
Star players to look out for this year are the all-rounder Steve Davies, Mark Wadley and bowler Peter Blake.
