Play area would not be a popular choice

PLANS to create a children's play area in Leigh Sinton have met opposition from neighbours who believe it is poorly located.

The land at the end of Somers Close and Kiln Lane is currently permitted for agricultural use and the creation of a "kick-about" playing field would require approval for a change of use.

Concerns raised in letters from residents include the potential for anti-social behaviour on the site, the existence of other playing fields nearby and the possible nuisance caused to neighbours bordering the field.

Other issues raised were the remote location of the land, meaning emergency services would be impeded from accessing it, the lack of amenities such as litter bins, lights and toilets and the possibility it would pave the way for later residential development on the fields.

The proposal has been recommended for a one-year trial by planning officers who would want to assess the affect on neighbours before long-term approval was granted.

The planning report states: "It is necessary to balance the community benefit of providing the play area, against the harm to residential amenity. It is your officer's view that the provision of such a play area would have demonstrable community benefits; however, the potential impact upon residential amenity is, at this time, unknown."

Roger Husband, joint chairman of Leigh and Bransford Parish Council planning committee, who applied for the change, refused to comment on the proposal.

It will go before the Northern Area Development Control Committee on Wednesday, April 2 at Priory Lodge Hall, Malvern, from 6pm.
