WITH summer holidays about to begin, The Courtyard in Hereford has programmed an eclectic mix of family films for August ,"just in case there are any rainy days".

The spokesman added: "Kicking off with the thinking sci-fi fan’s film choice of the summer, War for the Planet of the Apes (12A) (July 28 - August 3) asks important questions about humanity and our place in the hierarchy of life, whilst delivering some of the best special effects to be seen this year.

"For those looking for something a little lighter for young children, a third instalment of something altogether different lands at the end of July - Despicable Me 3 (U) (July 28 - August 3). For any big or small kids that loved Minions and the previous editions of this animated franchise, it’s an unmissable watch."

The spokesman added: "Fans of home grown cinema will be pleased to hear David Tennant voicing everybody’s favourite fireman’s latest flick - Fireman Sam: Alien Alert! (U) (August 4 and 5), in which Sam must protect Pontypandy once again.

"Hot on Sam’s heels, every kid’s dream is realised in the latest book-to-film adaptation: when Harold and George hypnotise their school principal he becomes none other than Captain Underpants (U) (August 18 to August 24)."

Described as "smouldering and stylish", Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne star in Luc Besson’s latest dazzling sci-fi adventure, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (12A) (August 19 to August 24).

The spokesman said: "Sure to bring much of Besson’s colour-riche surrealism to the big screen, the tale follows special operative duo Valerian and Laureline as they race against time to save the universe."

Members of Courtyard Club (aged 13 and under) and Courtyard Card (14 - 25) can get £3 film tickets at The Courtyard.
