IF Shakespeare had been born into the modern age, would he have been an enthusiastic burlesque dancer, instead of writing plays?

This is likely to be yet another mystery surrounding his famous name, and as usual there are no easy answers.

But it's no secret that a burlesque show is coming to Shakespeare's home town of Stratford, and with a nod to the Bard it is called "A Midsummer Night's Tease" - what else?

The show will be brought to the Warwickshire market town by Stratford ArtsHouse and Ice Crystal Productions, and it will be hosted by the Grand Duchess of Cabaret herself, Miss Kiki deVille.

A spokesman said: "We cordially invite you to an evening of tantalising tease and captivating cabaret. Featuring some of the finest talent from the UK's Burlesque and Cabaret scene."

Performers will include Briar Rouge - as seen recently on Channel 4's First Dates show.

The spokesman said: "Briar is renowned for her “ethereal and enchanting “fairytail” burlesque. Briar combines ballet and contemporary dance with classic burlesque to create whimsical routines, using decadent feather fans."

And not only ladies will take to the stage.

Mister Rock Hart burst on to the Burlesque scene and won the Best Performer Award March 2014 At The "Varietease 4th Tea Time Tassel Off", and now he'll be at Stratford, strutting his stuff.

The show will come to the ArtsHouse on Thursday, September 15, from 7.30pm.

Jenna Harvey, Stratford ArtsHouse general manager, said: “The ArtsHouse is very excited to be the first venue to bring burlesque and cabaret to Stratford. We have no doubt that the show will certainly be a night to remember."
