AUDIENCES in Tewkesbury will be treated to an intimate performance from a new folk duo this week.

Mick Ryan joins forces with Paul Downes to play in the bar of the Roses on Tuesday.

The new combination promises to create a performance that is both charismatic and skilled, subtle and sensual.

Mick is considered a fine singer of traditional and original songs among the folk scene, having written comic and serious material for The Crows during the 1980s as well as penning folk musicals for the radio.

Paul has worked with the likes of Phil Beer, the Arizona Smoke Revue, Pete Seeger and currently lines up with the Joyce Gang. He has appeared on nine albums with bands and has four solo albums and more than 200 session credits to his name.

A celebration of John Denver follows on Friday, March 2, in the shape of Country Roads featuring Wayne Denton and a full live band playing hits such as Leaving on a Jet Plane and Take Me Home Country Roads.

On Wednesday, March 7, it’s the turn of the new line-up of the Albion Band, who fuse the spirit of the band’s heyday with contemporary indie rock to create 21st-century English folk rock. For tickets, go to rosestheatre.org or call 01684 295074.
