5:30pm Monday 6th February 2012 in Music By Neil Watts
A SPECIAL and unusual programme of choral music comes to Malvern Theatres next weekend.
The Warwick-based Armonico Consort present Super Size Polyphony with director Christopher Monks on Friday, February 10 at 7.30pm.
The centre-piece of the concert will be the huge Elizabethan motet, Spem in Alium by Thomas Tallis, to be sung by eight five-part choirs.
It will be performed in the round, with singers placed in the Forum Theatre’s balcony area to generate a surround sound effect.
The theatre’s marketing director, Fred Moroni, said: “Tallis’s 40-part motet is seldom performed live because of the technical demands that it makes and the large forces it requires. This is a great opportunity to hear one of the glories of the English musical repertoire.”
Tickets range from £14-18. For more information and tickets go to malvern-theatres.co.uk or call the box office on 01684 892277.
