MALVERN Concert Club is looking forward with great enthusiasm to its 105th season of presenting the finest chamber music to audiences of the area.
The season is very special, as it includes the club's 500th concert, a landmark that can be paralleled by few other such clubs.
For this occasion, on March 13 2008, the club has engaged the great British soprano Dame Felicity Lott, who with pianist Graham Johnson will present a programme of songs from Germany, France and the USA.
Interest in this key event has been reflected in the large number of membership renewals, and thus subscribers to the whole season. And once again the club continues its partnership with Malvern Theatres, with its concerts in the Forum forming the main chamber music strand at the venue.
The season starts on September 27, with the young Russian pianist Yevgeny Sudbin, who has won awards in Europe, made acclaimed recordings and and attracted great praise in the USA. His programme will feature romantic music from his homeland.
On October 25, the Sacconi String Quartet, triple prizewinnners at the last London International String Quartet competition, will play Haydn, Beethoven and Brahms.
And this year's last concert on November 22 will feature the return on the Ex Cathedra Consort with another programme of Latin American baroque music. Their last visit to the club, in 2005, was a complete sell-out.
Cellist Adrian Brendel, son of pianist Alfred Brendel, and pianist Tim Horton will include Beethoven and Brahms in their recital on January 31, and the season finishes on May 8 when the Endellion String Quartet plays works by Haydn, Dvorak and Beethoven.
Club membership gives tickets for all six concerts at less than the price of four; for more details, call Tricia King on 01386 710757. Tickets for individual concerts are on sale at Malvern Theatres, 01684 892277 or www.malvern-theatres.co.uk.
