AS many people already know, the pop and rock music industry is undergoing many changes, as the Internet undermined traditional methods of distributing and promoting music Taking advantage of these changes is young Malvern musician Dan Scotty who releases his first CD, entitled The Vendetta EP, next week.
Dan, aged 17, had been playing since he was 11, and has been a member of a number of bands, at least one of which, Silverfilth, played quite a lot of local gigs.
Now he's producing his own music, playing both guitar and piano, and recording it himself using home-studio equipment.
He says; "My main influence is electro-pop with acoustic guitar, and punk and hardcore. It's quite a weird combination."
Dan's music is available to listen to via his own website and also via his MySpace site. "The My Space site has been very useful, I've got in touch with quite a few record labels through it," he says.
Among them are the American-based label Drive Thru Records, which is home to some of Dan's favourite bands. Even better, the label's boss is visiting the UK next month, and they've arranged to meet up.
"Things are definitely going pretty well at the moment," says Dan.
The Vendetta EP is out on Wednesday, July 25. The CD, and more information about Dan Scotty, are is available from www.danscotty.com and www.myspace.com/danscotty.
