AT Nature’s Font is the title of an exhibition at The Central Gallery, Great Malvern’s new gallery rental space.

The exhibition of paintings, sculpture, glass and ceramics opens next Saturday, May 29, and runs untilJune 9.

It has been organised by Geoffrey Bertram of Bertram Arts who has 30 years experience directing contemporary art galleries in London, Toronto and Edinburgh.

The exhibition will show case work by more than 14 UK artists whose work is inspired by landscape.

“Artists response to landscape is as varied as the land itself,” explained Mr Bertram, adding that whether it was in the Malverns, Herefordshire, the West Country or Scotland the artists’ work in the exhibition reflected this diversity with styles ranging from realistic panoramas to abstract.

“We’re excited about showing in Malvern because of its strong cultural tradition,” he said.

The artists include landscape painter Andrew George, whose paintings, some of which feature scenes around Malvern, have an almost photographic quality, and John Hilliard, whose pastel works of the Somerset coast are Turner-esque.

The exhibition is taking place in The Central Gallery and gallery owner Bridget Macdonald said she was delighted to welcome Bertram Arts as the firsat tennants. She said the exhibition with its sculpture, ceramics and paintings would show how effective the gallery space was.

“There are very few spaces of this kind to rent outside London and Bath. We feel it will be a valuable resource for artists and makers in the West Midlands and further afield and make a positive contribution to the cultural life of Malvern,” she said.
