THE largest engineering company in Europe has bought a majority stake in a Worcester company which specialises in 3D printing.

Siemens bought an 85% stake in Material Solutions last Tuesday (August 2), giving them control of the metal 3D printing firm.

A spokesman for the company, based in Great Western Business Park, said the deal should provide security and growth.

Willi Meixner, CEO of Siemens Power and Gas Division, said the acquisition gave Siemens world leading expertise in 3D printing.

Material Solutions boss Carl Brancher said: “We are very proud to become a part of Siemens. I am sure our know-how and experience will make a significant contribution to Siemens’ Additive Manufacturing [3D printing] strategy.”

Material Solutions make precision parts from 3D models using software, lasers and metal powders.

Siemens previously invested in the company in late 2015 but the latest acquisition provides the company with a majority stake in the business.

Material Solutions was founded in 2006 and employs more than 20 qualified engineers.
