THERE weren't too many chaps at the top of Pen Y Fan in a pink tutu, but Richard Hathaway made the effort in aid of a good cause.

For when the all female foursome Hallmark Hotties from Worcester law firm Hallmark Hulme found themselves a body short to tackle the triathlon-style Race the Sun event, Mr Hathaway stepped into the breach and did his best to look like a girl. Unfortunately the beard, and possibly the legs, let him down, but his noble effort did contribute to Hallmark Hotties finishing 66th out of 103 teams and raising more than £2,500 for the charity Action Medical Research, which saves and changes children’s lives.

Hallmark Hulme's managing partner Rebecca Widdowson explained: "We completed our Race the Sun adventure in 10 and a half hours, but this included a 40 minutes delay due to a buckled chain link. We also had a late change of personnel due to a training injury, but Richard, the husband of team member Jess, stepped up. Unsurprisingly he was the only person to have a pink tutu, which he wore all day.

"In the end the first cycling section of 24 miles was tough as it was fairly hilly. A challenging hike up Pen Y Fan followed as the weather was awful on the top with rain and hail. Some schoolchildren doing their DOE a couple of days later went missing and had to be rescued, so it was not to be taken lightly at all. Then there were a few short miles to the canoe, a 3k course on Lake Thirlmere, which proved that we should have practised, as going in a straight line was difficult and then an exhilarating final 19 miles cycling with lots of quick downhill trails. We all finished together and we would have been in the top 50 if we hadn’t had the chain incident."
