A WORCESTERSHIRE company which specialises in building houses on former garage sites has won two industry awards.

Oakleaf Commercial Services, headquartered on Hoo Farm Industrial Estate, Kidderminster, took two bronze awards at the Considerate Constructors Scheme National Site Awards in Manchester.

One was for the Amblecote Road project in Kidderminster, managed by Ian Tonkinson, where an old garage site was the new home for three houses built for shared ownership. The other bronze was for the Broadwaters development in the town, managed by Derek Colley, where an old community centre site was redeveloped with 19 properties, comprising a mix of apartments, houses and a two bedroom bungalow for rent. The projects were part of the company’s garage development scheme, which is devised to produce additional housing in areas which are generally former garage sites, while also creating work and additional local employment.

Ed Osborn, chairman of Oakleaf Board, said: “We are delighted to win these awards and to collect two is fantastic. We are advocates of the scheme which not only looks at the measures each site puts into place but how the building work affects the local neighbourhood and public, as well as the workforce and local environment.”

Mike Petter, chairman, CCS added: “It is our privilege to reward the efforts of all those involved in projects which set the bar in terms of considerate construction. We never fail to be impressed each year by the high levels of innovation and excellence evidenced throughout the industry. Each award-winning project serves as a shining example to the industry as to what can be achieved across a range of different sized projects and in all sectors of the industry. My congratulations to all sites that have received a National Site Award.”

The Considerate Constructors Scheme’s National Site Awards recognise sites that have raised the bar for considerate construction and the award winners are selected from the top performing 10 per cent. Winning an award illustrates those sites which have made the greatest contribution towards improving the image of construction.
