THE leader of Worcestershire's small business owners has called for more clarity in the EU debate so that members can better make up their minds.

Judi Brazkiewicz , chairman of the county branch of the Federation of Small Businesses, said that more than half (52 per cent) of her members feel uninformed, while 42 per cent feel they could be swayed before the referendum takes place on June 23.

She added: "There can be no doubt about the importance of the upcoming referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union. This is particularly so for the small business owner. Our research shows that many seek unbiased, factual information about the practical impact on their business of either staying within a reformed EU, or leaving it.

"By their nature, the UK’s 5.4 million small business owners are resilient go-getters. They deal with everything thrown at them – floods, economic upheaval, political change, regulations. They just get on it and whatever the outcome of June 23, they will survive.

"When they vote, they will do so not only in their business interests, but also keeping in mind the interests of their local community and indeed they will grapple with their own thoughts about Britain’s place in the world. However, they do seek more information about the impact on their business, their sector, and on regulation. All of these may change, whatever the decision at the ballot box.

"To that end, I issue a plea on behalf of the FSB members of Worcestershire for when both sides of the argument are designated by the Electoral Commission when the campaign officially starts. Both ‘REMAIN’ and ‘LEAVE’ campaigns must answer the practical questions raised by FSB members. This is a huge decision. For many small business owners it's their only opportunity to decide on Britain's future in the world and they must have the facts about their business, to help them make their decision."
