HOME improvement chain Screwfix, which has seven branches in Worcestershire, is looking for the area's top trade apprentice.

The winner will then go head to head with finalists from around the UK at Google HQ to be named the best in Britain.

This year’s winner will receive a business pack including a Google Nexus tablet and a top of the range laptop, as well as £5,000 worth of Screwfix products and up to £3,000 to spend on training courses to further enhance their career. They will also wear the crown of Screwfix’s No 1 Apprentice.

John Mewett, marketing director at Screwfix, said: “As a key supplier to the trade we believe it’s vital that we recognise and reward the future tradesmen across the UK as they really are the foundation of any community, ensuring homes and businesses are fit for purpose. This competition has been created to give young apprentices a first step on the ladder in their career and give them the tools to help them to build a successful business.”

Entries are open until Sunday, March 6 and the national final will be held at Google’s head office in April.

Nadia Connabeer of Totnes, Devon, the Trade Apprentice Winner 2015, said: “I’d recommend everyone to apply, I never thought I’d win and I’ve been on such a journey ever since I got the news, from the free products to the training I’ve received, it’s helped me and my career so much.”
