THIS week’s blog is dominated by the events of today’s ‘race’!

Well, I survived the slippery slopes of the Mayhill Massacre, I have never been skiing, and I don’t drink a lot of alcohol, but during the race I was thinking ‘this must be how it feels to be on The Piste!’ I was slightly more elegant than Bambi on ice, but I don’t think I’m giving Jayne Torville any worries just at the moment!

Mud, mud and more mud. Several shades and textures of mud to be precise, and all of it cold. I lost count of the amount of times I fell, but the falling wasn’t the problem as it was a soft landing, albeit very cold and wet, it was getting back up again I had trouble with.

The route was nothing more than a quagmire in places with no alternative other than to just plough through. At one point I asked a fellow masochist if I still had my shoes on, as I was afraid to look down and find that I no longer had a pair of feet never mind trainers!

Several hundred people had got up on a very cold Sunday morning to do this race, and I have to say that the camaraderie was brilliant before during and after.

The support from numerous Malvern Joggers as I crossed the finish line was very welcome. A lot of fun, probably the only race I have been in where I have spent most of my time laughing, or was it hysteria?

This week the mileage increases slightly, but Saturday will be the highlight of my training so far as I will be spending the day at a London Marathon ‘meet the experts day.’ Guest speakers include Liz Yelling and Dave Bedford.
