  • A year in power

IT is just over 12 months since the Tories swept to power on MHDC promising dynamic strong leadership. All I can say is what a difference a year makes. Last week, as reported in the Malvern Gazette, MHDC voted on taking the core strategy involving the building of up to 1,600 new houses to it's next stage, public consultation, though how one can consult the public when there is only one option on offer defies belief. It's more like Zanu PF on a bad day than a genuine exercise in participative democracy. That is why the Lib/Dems on MHDC quite rightly voted against. read more

  • Various comments

WHAT Michael Moore took to be carping about the library (Malvern Gazette, June 27) is surely part and parcel of democratic discussion. If one believes natural hedges to be a great deal more beautiful than iron railings and paying for a gardener so much more cost-effective than a major building contract that the saving could pave paid for pot-hole repairs and pooh-collection, how else can one make the point apart from trying to say so? read more

  • Refurbishment of Ledbury buildings

I WRITE with reference to your article concerning the refurbishment of buildings in Ledbury for the benefit of the community. It is a sad day when the only way in which public buildings can be brought up to date is through Lottery and charitable means. The youth centre, for example, should have money spent on it from the County Council's budget and it should not have to rely on Lottery funding, which was refused. There is a need for those in authority to understand their responsibility to invest in the public buildings and open spaces rather than relying solely on lottery and charitable funding which may or may not materialise. read more
