100 years ago THE new march by Sir Edward Elgar, Pomp and Circumstance No. 4, was performed for the first time at the promenade concert at Queen's Hall on Saturday evening. Sir Edward Elgar's March in D has become so popular that considerable interest was manifested in the new composition. It is in part singularly suggestive of the melody on the first march, which has been used as the air for the well-known song Land of Hope and Glory. Malvern Gazette, August 30, 1907. read more
