Letters

  • Community rise to challenge

I would like to express the gratitude of Herefordshire Police to the many members of the public who tirelessly assisted the emergency services and local authority as we dealt with the recent flooding. read more

  • My heroes of the hour

I left work in Stroud at 6pm on Friday, July 20, and managed, with difficulty in a small car, to negotiate Gloucester, Maisemore, Corse etc, the M5 being blocked solid, when I arrived at the southern end of Longdon at 8.30pm. After trying to find a route northwards back to Malvern via the Ledbury or Tewkesbury areas, I was forced to give up and call at the Hunters Inn, Buckbury, to get out of the rain. read more

  • Dispel myths

Again, Worcestershire has been hit by flooding due to unseasonal rains. read more

  • Provided shelter

LEDBURY Community Hall was an emergency overnight shelter for 160 stranded victims of the recent flood. read more

  • Too many cooks

The staff of the agencies and services involved in the July floods crisis certainly deserve our thanks for their tireless efforts. read more

  • Tireless work

LAST Friday, on my way home from Redditch, I found myself caught and stranded in Malvern due to the flooding. read more

  • Please visit

The Old Plough, Longdon, is in between the worst flood affected areas, although thankfully we were not flooded ourselves. Our business has been seriously affected though because of the lack of access from the M5 and also due to guests who have cancelled for various reasons. We understand why guests would not want to visit the area at this time as there is a severe water shortage and many attractions are closed due to flooding, however everyone is working tremendously hard to get things back to normal and there is no doubt the area will bounce back from this crisis. read more

  • Waste of taxpayers' money

IN 1963 I came to live and work in Malvern and discovered that I had just left the worst education authority, the West Riding of Yorkshire, to take up a teaching post in the then next to worst, according to The Times Education Supplement's Education Authority black list, namely Worcestershire! read more

  • Can't even pronounce it's name!

Thank you for not losing interest nor sacrificing coverage now the immediate threat to the Malvern outdoor centre appears to have receded at the expense of the centre in Snowdonia. read more

  • A chance to make some changes to bus service

WITHIN a month a new bus service will start between Great Malvern and Ledbury. read more

  • No logic in council's green waste policy

I support Coun. John Raine (Your Letters, July 20) regarding the county council's recycling policy and the classification of domestic and commercial waste. I would like to ask where is the logic of selling green waste bags at £1 each, or 50p to the elderly, to dispose of garden waste which is then picked up by Malvern Hills District Council and put into landfill? read more

  • Warm hearts make us happy

WE are so happy we've been here and had a chance to meet so many lovely people who were so kind to us. read more
