100 years ago MR E Trigg, Unicorn Hotel, had the misfortune to lose a very valuable mare on Monday last, as a result of an accident. His char-a-banc, drawn by four animals, was proceeding on the weekly journey to Eastnor and Ledbury and was going down the hill past British Camp. When near the top gate leading to Eastnor Park, the animal in question stumbled and fell. A motor-car was coming on behind at the time and ran into the mare, killing her almost instantly. The car and its occupants were knocked into the hedge at the side of the road, but fortunately no-one was hurt. Malvern Gazette, August 23, 1907 THE monthly meeting of the managers of the Ledbury Council Schools was held on Wednesday. Mr Perry, one of the visiting committee, gave the returns of the attendances of the scholars at the various schools. The average percentage during the past month in the Boys' school was 89, Girls' school 85 and infants 76. It was stated that the drop in percentage was caused to some extent by an outbreak of measles. Mr Mills, the school attendance officer, said there was a great deal of truancy at the present time, and mentioned several cases where boys stayed away from school and got into mischief. The Board expressed determination to deal firmly with the problem and seven summonses were ordered in cases where repeated warnings had been ignored. Ledbury Free Press, August 27, 1907. read more
