UPTON Parish Church is serving up a taste of the exotic for its latest fundraiser. The church is hosting a Bangladeshi meal at Pundits restaurant, in Old Street, on Sunday. Similar events have gone down well in previous years and there will be three sittings, lunch at 12.30pm and dinner at 6pm and 8pm. UPTON residents are being invited to show off their horticultural handiwork during a special Garden Walk next weekend. Upton in Bloom is organising the event on July 14-15 as part of its busy summer schedule. Several residents have already expressed a willingness to open their gardens to the public for the event but Upton in Bloom spokesman Jackie Surtees said they were still looking for a few more volunteers. THE Upton-upon-Severn Friends of Guiding are holding a fundraising barbecue and coffee evening at 6.30pm on Wednesday (July 11). As well as delicious food and drink, there will be stalls and games, a raffle and musical entertainment by Upton Primary School pupils. The event is taking place at Buryfield, in School Lane, but will be moved to the Scout hut in Laburnum Walk in the event of bad weather. Admission costs 50p (children free) and all proceeds go to Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers in the Upton District. read more
KEEN Upton gardeners will be putting their work under the spotlight when the local Upton in Bloom judging takes place this weekend. Judges will consider entries in eight separate residents' and business categories, including shop fronts, front and back gardens and even caravans. They will announce their verdicts at the end of July and winners will be presented with cups at the Upton in Bloom annual general meeting later in the year. read more
JEWELS and gemstones is the colourful theme of a flower festival being held at Earl's Croome Church. The flower festival can be enjoyed from Friday to Sunday, July 13-15, and will fill the old church with floral displays. The event has been organised by the Earl's Croome Flower Guild. The festival is open from 11am until 5pm each day. Everyone is welcome and admission is £3. read more
