LAST Sunday morning marked the first Sunday in Advent when the first candle on the Advent ring was lit by Abigail Cauldwell. The church of St Peter's was full with friends and families for the baptism of two children: baby Eleanor Grace Cauldwell of Upper Ferry Lane, Callow End was baptised and she and her family will shortly be moving to Australia in January. Baby Mollie Summer Edwards of Lower Wick was baptised, grandparents are living in Callow End and Colletts Green. They were welcomed into the church by Ian Gane and Reverend Sue Irwin officiated. read more
LAST Sunday the first Sunday of Advent was marked at St James Church with the lighting of the first candle in the Advent ring. This was lit by Lucy Warburton and the service was led by Reverend Biddi Kings. Young people Anna Warburton and Hannah Whittal-Williams presented a sketch based on talents and Adam Birch read one lesson and Philip Betts read the gospel. Reverend Sue Irwin conducted the communion service. read more
DIARY dates increase as Christmas approaches, and there are several to note for the coming week. Tomorrow (Saturday) at 7.30pm there will be another recital on the newly refurbished organ in St James's Church by prizewinning young Norwegian organist Jarle Fagerheim. Jarle, who played his first recital in Stavanger Cathedral aged just 15, won prizes in competitions for young organists in both Norway and the UK last year. His repertoire ranges from the baroque classics to jazzy "fireworks" of the 21st Century The recital is the direct result of a chance internet search! Back in March of this year, Jarle, a council member of the Norwegian Greens, did a Google search on the key words 'green' and 'organist' and happened upon the name of John Raine, St. James's' organist and Green Party district councillor for Malvern Hills . E-mail correspondence ensued, and Jarle accepted an invitation to visit Malvern, to address the local Green Party and to give a recital at St.James's. . read more
FUNDS for the refurbishment of Suckley Village Hall continue to grow. Tom Talbot reports that last month's quiz was a great success. Sixteen teams took part and enjoyed a ploughman's supper, an excellent raffle and a well run quiz under the auspices of Chris Dunn. The event raised £218. read more
