• Callow End

  AT St James' Church last Sunday morning, the three candles on the Advent wreath were lit by three young children from Junior Church. These represented 1) the patriarchs and 2) the prophets of the Old Testament and 3) John the Baptist. The service continued with a duet entitled Where is Christmas? (from the film The Grinch) sung by Nicola and Louisa Sandy. The children of Junior Church presented the Christmas nativity story, in costumes provided by their parents, and included participation by members of the congregation. The presentation was organised by Gill Whittal-Williams. At the end of the service a cheque for £360 was presented to Malcolm Rankin for the work of FOAG (Farmers Overseas Action Group) by Louisa Sandy. The money was raised by the older members of Junior Church over several months, by car washing and shoe-cleaning. Malcolm thanked all concerned and explained the work of FOAG in Uganda and explained that the money raised will supply two pairs of oxen for four families to use in cultivation. read more

• Guarlford and Madresfield

  ON Sunday, December 23, the fourth Sunday of Advent, there will be a service of Nine Lessons and Carols at 4pm at St Mary's, Madresfield; and on Christmas Eve a children's crib service will be at 5.15pm and later the parish midnight communion takes place at 10pm. On Christmas morning, Holy Communion will be at St Mary's Guarlford at 10.30am; and on Sunday, December 30 a united benefice service will be held at Guarlford Church at 10.30am (There being no other service in the benefice that day). read more

• Powick

  CHILDREN, including those from Junior Church (from St James', Callow End) joined in the Christingle service held last Sunday morning at St Peter's Church. The service led by Reverend Sue Irwin began with the lighting of two candles on the Advent ring by Lucy Warburton and Kieran Shuard. Hymns reflected the theme of Christingle and oranges were distributed to the children and their candles lit. The Christingles were prepared for the children by Jenny Hill, Jo Walker, Thea Wild, Sally Gurney and Marion Lewis. The Diocesan Co-ordinator for the Children's Society, Susan Price, spoke of the work of the society among young run-aways, homeless youngsters and the disabled, and with refugee children. read more

• Bosbury

  A WARM thank you from Bosbury Cricket Club for your support. The bingo evening at the parish hall raised £400 and the auction of promises nearly £2,000. read more

• Storridge

  PARISH Church - Sunday, December 23 Mattins at 9.30am, Monday, December 24 Christingle Service at CRADLEY Church. All Storridge residents are most welcome to attend.   ON Saturday, December 22 there will be a Christmas activity morning at the Vicarage for children from five years upwards. Come and have fun learning about the true meaning of Christmas.   THE annual Christingle service will be held on Monday, Christmas Eve at 4pm at St James Church, Colwall. Other services on Christmas Eve will be 11.30pm also at St James, Colwall and All Saints Church, Coddington. All are welcome. read more
