HOW disappointed must the MHDC be only just making the top twenty authorities for allowing building in gardens. Still looking around Malvern at the moment it won't be long before they can reach the top ten. Perhaps we could have a chart for the largest number of dwellings on the smallest gardens. We should do well in that too. read more
YOUR excellent report last week concerning the motoring misery has become even worse by the addition of lengthy roadworks which have almost totally barred car parking anywhere near the Upper Welland Stores. Do these utility companies have to get planning permission and if they do perhaps the people who authorised these works to begin immediately adjacent to a village shop hoping for and now failing to get extra revenue from Christmas shoppers, would explain how he or she arrived at this extraordinary decision. read more

I HEARTILY agree with the sentiments expressed by John Kirton in last week's Malvern Gazette. read more
I WAS intrigued to notice in the edition of November 30 that Roger Sutton of the Civic Society was credited with the idea that the Old Station Yard at Malvern Wells should be brought to use as a railway station in preference to the current proposal for houses. read more
I AM writing to object strongly to the planning application for the building of 33 residential units on the Old Station Yard off Peachfield Road. read more
IT was most gratifying to read your article in the Malvern Gazette of November 30 that discussions were beginning on the redevelopment of the Malvern Post Office site. Many of your ardent readers have for years, seen the potential of this site - see letters in your paper circa April 04. They have been watching the progress of various bodies such as (1) GMAT - associations of traders (2) TCP - town centre partnership and the latest (3) Civic Trust - high st Malvern. All have been involved in town centre development for some time but without much co-ordination. At last, your article published on November 30 would appear to be saying what we have all been saying namely, use the Post Office site as a means of co-ordinating all town centre development. read more
TWO cheers for the cabinet of Worcestershire County Council who recently (December 6) reversed their decision to close the County Outdoor Education Centre at Llanrug in Snowdonia; only two cheers though because for 12 months they have turned resolutely deaf ears on the overwhelming educational arguments for the Centre's survival. The change has come about, above all because Lib-Dem and Labour councillors called-in' the original decision to sell off the centre and it was referred to the Scrutiny Committee of the County Council who found that proper procedures had not been followed. read more
THE District Council have now deferred a decision on the trees on Belle Vue Island pending the report of a tree specialist from the National centre in Farnham. I would have preferred to see them backing the judgement of their own officers rather than spending a consultancy fee in order to obtain a second opinion - which might strangely coincide with that of the Town Centre Partnership. read more
