Water supply slowly returning

RUNNING water is slowly coming back to the parish of Eldersfield this week, says parish clerk Joseph Gabbott.

In common with many other areas around Tewkesbury, Eldersfield lost its fresh water supply when the pumping station at The Mythe was inundated by last week's rising floodwaters.

Mr Gabbott said the parish was largely without water for a few days, but supplies started to return last weekend. "Some of us have had a trickle of water, some have had more than a trickle, but of course it can't be drunk," he said.

"Most people have had to forego the luxury of a shower and of course a bath is right out of the question," he said.

But he said the people of the parish seemed to be fending for themselves fairly well. "I ordered three pallets bottles of bottled water and they arrived on Sunday, but there does not seem to be that much of a demand for them," he saud.

Mr Gabbott said: "I can say that as a person who has been flooded, I'm delighted with the way our neighnobopurs rallied round to help. My house is a little lower than the other here and we had a lot of surfeace water coming in.

"Our neighbours were in here for about four hours moving things out of the way, even putting the piano up on bricks, and without their help the damage will have been much worse. We're extremely grateful to them."
