Roadshows rolling through half term

A feast of fun is coming to Reigate and Redhill over the coming half term week, when a series of Council roadshows tour the borough.

Promising to entertain and educate in equal measure, the roadshows are offering something to amuse all ages.

Face painters, entertainers, and the ever popular Thunderbirds from Mercury FM will be entertaining the crowds.

A host of events will include professional foot ball and basketball coaching, a rock band, dancing and martial arts.

On the educational side, the roadshows will provide a chance to find out anything you wanted to know about the Council but never asked.

Officials will be on hand to deal with inquiries, so if you are in a pickle over planning, baffled by benefits, or puzzled over pest control, come down.

Police, fire fighters and army cadets will man stands as will members of the Government's Connexions scheme for young people.

Councillor Roger Newstead, executive member for projects and performance, said: "Last year we held three open days at the Town Hall which were a huge success.

"This year we decided to go one better by bringing our open days to the people.

"A lot of effort has gone into organising them and I am delighted that there will be such a rich variety of displays and acts which will entertain young and old alike."

First stop for the roadshow on Monday, February 24 is the Harlequin Theatre in Redhill.

The Redhill event does not include sports coaching but will include turns from young performers preparing for Star for a Night, the variety show at the theatre in April. There will also be the chance to hear Firestone rock band play between 12.30pm and 2pm.

On Tuesday, February 25, the roadshow will be arriving at Reigate Priory School in Priory Park.

Football coaches from Premiership giants Fulham FC will give free tuition while professional basketball coaches will also be running sessions for all-comers.

On Wednesday the show moves on to Banstead Youth Centre, and on Thursday events will move on to Horley Infants School.

All the roadshows are from 10am-4pm.
