Neighbouring fires

It was deja vu for Woodside firefighters on Sunday (February 9) when they were called to two separate incidents next door to each other.

At 7.45am they joined their Beckenham colleagues when fire broke out at a house in Portland Road. A woman and a child were treated for smoke inhalation and the cause of the blaze is being investigated.

Hours later, at 12.07pm, they were called to the property next door, where burning incense had caught fire.

No-one was injured, but firefighters explained had a smoke detector been fitted, the alarm would have been raised much quicker.
