SCREENS at bus stops which show bus information in real time are popping up in Worcester.

Thirteen displays which show when the next bus is due are in place along key city routes.

The hope is the information could one day be accessed remotely via a mobile app, minimising waiting at bus stops.

There are at least four in the city centre, along with four along the A44 towards Bromyard and five on the London Road.

The displays are part of a £1.8 million investment from the Department for Transport for the Worcester Transport Strategy Major Scheme.

A further 26 will be rolled out across the county this year with plans to extend the idea into Droitwich and Malvern.

Marcus Hart, the county council’s cabinet member for Highways, said: “We need a public transport network that is world class to match our whole aspiration for a World Class Worcestershire. The council is bringing in relatively new technology, including the UK’s first solar powered display. Once this roll out is complete we hope to have a strong enough case to continue to improve real time bus information.”

Web information and on-street information points could be introduced later.
